It’s been a while

I’d like to apologize for not getting on here much recently. The holidays are a busy time for me and my family (we travel a bit) and between writing, working, shopping, and visiting, I havent’ had much time to write out a satisfactory post. But I’m going to try one now.

I’d like to humbly thank all of you who purchased Little Room. I hope you all enjoyed the first issue of the magazine, and I am determined to become even more familiarized with the publishing business in the next few months so that the next issue will be larger, bolder, and better. The first time of anything is a bit shaky, but I’ve been spending some time looking at some unique magazines for new ideas. I’m hoping to have color photos and artwork in future issues, as well as unusual features and non-fiction essays, two things that I did not include in the previous issue. 

Of course, in order to have these things, I need people to submit them. Submissions have drastically slowed down since the first issue’s release, but I want to encourage all to submit something, even if it’s just an idea for a feature. The next issue does not come out until May, so there’s plenty of time, but it’s always good to get something going early so we can both be satisfied with it if it gets published. If you haven’t already, you should consider ‘liking’ Little Room’s Facebook page. It’s a bit quicker for me to post updates on there then here, so it would be safe to assume that the Facebook will have more quips from me than on Tumblr. It’s just fifty times easier to write a quick post rather than a long, winding blog like the one you’re currently reading.

I also want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holidays. I will probably be busy over the next two weeks as well, so I will go ahead and wish you a Happy New Year too. Once January rolls along, I will be posting on here much more in preparation of the next Little Room issue.

I would like to take the time to personally thank all of you for your incredible support of Little Room. This project, which began just several months as a vague idea, has become a successful reality. The only way this could have happened is through unwavering support, and that is what I have found here. Without all of you, Little Room would be no more.

I also want to thank all of those who have purchased Little Room. I’ve actually been surprised at how many have been purchased over the first weekend of circulation; I’m way ahead of my original estimates. If you’d like to purchase a copy, a link can be found here. I’d also encourage all of you to follow the Little Room Facebook page, which I will probably begin using more extensively than Tumblr. Not to say this page will disappear or anything, but I get on Facebook quite a bit more than I do on Tumblr.

Just two more days!!

Also, I just wanted to stress that Little Room is still looking for possible cover art (photography and art are the most obvious mediums) as well as new “tidbits” that could be added to the Spring/Summer issue. I put some of my own ideas in a post that is just a few spins of the mousewheel below this very post. Little Room’s release date has been set

The first issue will be available for purchase on Amazon on November 15th, or next Tuesday. I’ll be posting a link here later that’ll take you directly to the Amazon page. It will also be available on the Facebook page, which you should all go to and Like this instant.

Also, I threw out some suggestions for possible features or just nifty ideas for the next issue. Though everything Little Room published in this issue is either poetry or fiction, it won’t be like that in future issues. Check out the Tumblr site if you’ve been thinking about submitting something a bit more unorthodox and feel free to use the Ask box to submit your own ideas or suggestions.

Some possible ideas for next issue

I’ve been thinking a lot about art for the next issue, especially since all I got for the Fall issue was a cover shot. Some ideas would include but not necessarily be limited to..

Inkblots

Recipes

Cartoons/comics

Schematics (go here for some sweet examples that have been published in a different lit mag)

Sketchings/engravings

Formulas

Weird photographs previously published in old magazines such as Popular Mechanic or something (obviously, permission would be required for this)

Posters/propaganda

Safety labels/pictures (like the brochures you find on airplanes)

These are just the tip of the iceberg. I’m looking to really expand Little Room’s reach in the next few months. Does anyone else have some cool ideas or suggestions?

In case you’ve been wondering…

Little Room accepts submissions on a rolling basis. I haven’t gotten any since I said Fall submissions were closed, but I always accept ‘em. They just may not get considered until the next issue (May in Little Room’s case). Submissions are still being accepted at nb150207@ohio.edu and on the Tumblr site. I’m also considering opening up a Submishmash account, so be on the lookout for that as a possible submission route as well.

For next issue, since there is so much more time than the Fall issue, I’m willing to consider more stuff, such as non-fiction essays, criticism, photography, art, and other proposals. I’m also considering a possible theme for a future issue, but I don’t think that will be used in the upcoming Spring issue. Again, more information will be found here on the Facebook site.

The Fall issue, I think, was a major success. It is currently being reviewed by the Createspace team, and I should receive some feedback within the next 48 hours. I’m going to make some minor changes to the interior and cover, then it’ll be out for purchase at Amazon. The price is 8 dollars, and all profits will be distributed to the contributors. Props to all the writers who submitted their hard work for consideration and for all of the dedicated fans out there for making Little Room possible.
